After a lot of
elbow grease and wire wheel......... |
We
have made a lot of progress on painting suspension components. The
engine has been cleaned, but is still waiting on a paint job and
reassembly.

Here we have the engine stripped down
and are getting ready to clean paint. We aren't going to overhaul
it, but we are going to replace all the gaskets and the water pump. |

|
As you can see the engine cleaned up
nicely. It too a lot of engine cleaner and spray paint to get it to
look like this. |

|
We had a problem with two of the water
pump blots that were rusted to the timing cover. First we twisted
off the bolt head, drilled it out and inserted an extractor, twisted off
the extractor, drilled out the extractor and still couldn't get the bolts
off. So we cut off the timing cover and then we were able to remove
the bolts from the block. A new timing cover was $25 at the junk
yard. |

The wiring harness looked like quite a
mess when we pulled it out. Rather than take a chance on screwing it
up we sent it to Roger Stine in California for a diet job. While it
was there it lost about 25 pounds. Best $350 we spent so far on the
kit. |

|
The budget did not allow for new chrome
valve covers so we did the next best thing and decided to polish the
aluminum valve covers. |
|
|
|
|
|
Although the pedal box will not be seen
once the panels and body are on, we just couldn't bring ourselves to put a
rusted one into the Cobra. |

The rear axle underwent a significant
transformation. Lots of elbow grease and paint. The new chrome
rear end cover didn't hurt either |
